Billmonitor has disabled the consumer recommendation function (the calculator). Here’s why…
About Consumer Recommendation
The calculator enabled users to get a suggested deal based on their estimated usage. It helped hundreds of thousands of our valued customers over the years, identifying a combined millions of savings. The service received a lot of positive feedback, both from our customers and in the press.
Why shut it down?
Recently, it has become increasingly difficult to analyse and offer all network options. As an example, EE informed us last month that they will no longer allow Billmonitor to offer their tariffs.
While we love the marketplace, we strongly believe that the UK regulator Ofcom has totally failed to both establish a level playing field, and to facilitate better decision making through price comparison services such as Billmonitor.
While the end of the calculator sees the closing down of Billmonitor’s last consumer offering, we will continue to service business and public-sector organisations.
What does this mean for you?
You will no longer be able to use the calculator tool to identify money-saving deals. We have already informed Ofcom about our decision and asked them to remove us from their website.
We deleted all user details from our systems when we disabled the historical bill analysis in November 2021. This means you do not need to take any actions to protect your user data.
This is a very sad day for the team here at Billmonitor. We will continue to argue for better consumer regulation and monitor future developments. Should a more sustainable approach to providing intermediaries such as Billmonitor access to mobile usage data emerge, we will not hesitate to relaunch the service.
We love you and thank you for all your support over the years - we hope that you found the calculator useful.
With very best wishes,
